Choosing a Motorcycle Insurance
Company
If you are a biker, you know the rush of taking a ride and
the agony of trying to find a good motorcycle insurance
company.
It seems that motorcycle riding is like a lot of other
things in life. There are some good positives, but there are
also a lot of negatives that are less than enjoyable to deal
with.
Bikers will agree, there is nothing like the freedom of
taking their bike down an open road. Instead of being cooped up
in a car, they can feel life and the energy around them as they
break through the air on the open highway. Not to mention
bikers get to wear great leather clothing!
But, before you get to enjoy the ride, you need to make sure
you are adequately insured. Not all companies offer motorcycle
insurance.
It is considered a more risky insurance type than regular
car insurance, because of the skill it takes to ride bikes, the
temptation for riders to speed and the likelihood of serious
injury even in a minor wreck.
Here are some things the insurance company is going to want
to know when you are looking for insurance:
What type of bike do you have? Just like
the kind of car you drive makes a difference in auto insurance
rates, the type of bike you will be riding makes a difference
in motorcycle insurance rates, but not for the same reason.
Insurance companies want to know what your ride costs, so they
can insure it to the replacement value.
What reputation does the brand have? The
better known the motorcycle company that created your
particular bike, the better for your motorcycle insurance
rates. The reason for this is that the more common a motorcycle
is, the more common the parts to repair that motorcycle will be
to purchase if you need a repair. To an insurance company this
means it will not be as costly to get your bike repaired, if
you were to be in an accident.
What about safety? Some motorcycles are
considered safer than others and there are plenty of
motorcycles that have added safety features. Let your
motorcycle insurance company know if yours is one of these, as
the more safety features your bike has, the more you can save
on insurance rates.
What features does it have? – In addition
to the safety features, there are other features that may have
been added onto your bike to make it look cool. These are going
to make your premiums go up. All those add-ons are things that
the insurance company will have to pay to replace if you have a
wreck, so they are going to charge more to cover the bike.
If you already have a bike and need insurance, you may just
have to answer these questions and bite the bullet for whatever
they charge. If you don’t this may be a good time to consider
what features will lower your rates and choose your bike more
carefully before calling the motorcycle insurance
company.
